General contractor license

The sub-categories 2.6 Contractor in piles and special foundations, 3.1 Contractor in concrete structures, 4.1 Contractor in masonry structures, 5.1 Contractor in metal structures and prefabricated concrete elements, 6.1 Contractor in wood frames, as well as all work included in Annex III are part of the “general owner-builder” and “general contractor” licenses.

General Owner Builder License
If you are owner of a building, of equipment intended for public use or of an installation subject to the Building Act and that you carry out work yourself for your own account.
You must then have an owner-builder license.
Reminder: The holder of a builder-owner’s license carries out or has carried out, on his property or properties, work to meet his own needs and not to derive a profit from the actual execution of the construction work. In simpler terms, the owner-builder does not perform construction work for clients.
Particularities
The owner-builder is exempt from holding a license if he entrusts the work to a single specialized contractor who holds all the sub-categories necessary for the execution of all the work.
The owner-builder who performs or has performed the work included only in sub-categories of Annex III (specialized work with lower risks) of the List of license subcategories – PDF (131 KB) does not need to have a license.
For an owner-builder license, the following exams must be passed:
