Subclass 14.1

This subclass authorizes construction work which is not reserved exclusively for electrical contractors and which concerns elevators, freight elevators, small freight elevators, escalators, moving walkways and material elevators covered by the current edition of the CAN / CSA B44 code “Safety code for lifts, hoists and escalators”, made applicable by chapter IV of the Construction Code approved by decree n ° 895-2004 of 22 September 2004, and defined in this code as well as related construction work.

Additional explanations

This subclass includes in particular construction work relating to:

• lifting and lowering mechanisms with cab or platform and which move between two or more landings. This equipment includes in particular elevators and freight elevators;
• motorized stairs and gangways that transport passengers from one landing to another. This equipment includes, in particular, escalators and moving walkways;
• cabin lifting and lowering mechanisms which serve two or more landings and which are used exclusively for transporting materials due to their small dimensions or the fact that the cabin is difficult to access. This equipment includes in particular small goods lifts and material lifts;
• Person lifts covered by the CSA-B311 standard and certain other material lift-type devices covered by the ASME-B20.1 standard, subject to the acceptance of a different measure granted by the Régie du bâtiment du Québec in under section 127 of the Building Act (RSQ, c. B-1.1).
