1.9 Building mechanic contractor

Subclass 1.9

Subject to the second paragraph of article 6 of this by-law, this subclass authorizes construction work relating to the mechanics of a building, of equipment intended for public use or of an engineering work. civil work, such as heating, ventilation, refrigeration, plumbing, fire protection and their control systems, as well as insulation and emergency power supply work.

It also authorizes construction work included in a subclass of Schedule III that is not already authorized by the first paragraph, when this work is part of a project relating to the mechanics of a building, of a equipment intended for public use or for civil engineering work.

Finally, it authorizes similar or related construction work.

Additional explanations

Generally, this contractor organizes and coordinates the execution of the work mainly included in section 15 of the Normative Directory, as a subcontractor for a general contractor or a general owner-builder.

This subclass includes in particular construction work relating to:

  • compressors and compressed air piping;
  • underfloor heating and snow melting equipment;
  • energy storage equipment;
  • water treatment equipment and reservoirs;
  • recycling and waste disposal equipment;
  • generator sets;
  • cooling towers;
  • piping and process equipment (building anchoring work);
  • storm drainage piping;
  • piping for filtration and purification plants;
  • plumbing and equipment for swimming pools and fountains;
  • oil, natural gas and propane piping.

This contractor may carry out all the work included in Annex III, that is to say work with lower risks, without these subclasses appearing on his license when they relate to a project relating to building mechanics. referred to in this subclass.

This contractor may not perform any of the work included in Appendix II, unless these subclassses appear on his license. Thus, he cannot perform refrigeration, plumbing or electrical work without holding one or other of the following subclasses: 15.10, 15.5 or 16. Moreover, he can have them executed.
