Subclass 15.5

This subclass authorizes construction work which is reserved exclusively for master pipe-mechanics under the Act respecting master pipe-mechanics and which concerns plumbing systems in any building or construction, including piping and all accessories. used for drainage or drip, for rear ventilation of siphons, for hot or cold water supply or for gas supply.

It also authorizes construction work included in subclass 15.5.1.

Finally, it authorizes related construction work.

Section intended for owner-builders

Since the Master Pipe-Mechanics Act (RSQ c. M-4) does not apply to the owner-builder, the content of this subclass of the owner-builder’s license is significantly different from that of the contractor. In particular, this subclass is appropriate for construction work on plumbing systems, everywhere in Quebec, without exception.

This subclass includes in particular construction work relating to:

• work included in Chapter III of the Quebec Construction Code and in Chapter I of the Safety Code;
• the installation of water meters;
• the installation of water treatment systems (softener, filters, etc.);
• the installation of waste shredders;
• the installation of the gas supply piping;
• the installation of solar thermal collectors;
• the installation and replacement of water heaters (connection to the energy source requires the appropriate subclass);
• the installation of lift pumps for drains.

Declaration of plumbing work

Whether licensed or unlicensed, owner-builders must report any plumbing construction or renovation.

NO LICENSE IS REQUIRED FOR WORK:

• relating to the thawing of pipes;
• cleaning of drains;
• aimed at purging hot and cold water pipes and water heaters and pouring an antifreeze solution into the siphons of the various devices connected to the plumbing network.
